X Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival Saturday, 19 August, after an intense week and a half of screenings and parallel activities that have captivated all lovers of the seventh art, neighbours and visitors to the town. The festival will bid farewell to this successful tenth edition with the closing ceremony (20,30 hours)Centro Cultural Rafael Serrano de Calzada de Calatrava, Miguel Rellán will be the venue for the Awards Ceremony and a well-deserved tribute to the well-known actor Miguel Rellán. Expectations are high for this exciting farewell event.
The Centro Cultural Rafael Serrano will be open to the public from 7pm, so that anyone interested in attending the closing event can collect their free tickets in time. At the farewell and closing ceremony of the X Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival‘Al Modo Bar’ tapas competition,Akaida Orozco and with masterful performances by Rafael Guillermoat the piano. Thereafter, and with everyone’s emotions contained, all the prizes awarded at this film festival, both for short and feature films, will be handed out one by one.
Calzada de Calatravawill award the best short film in each of the six official sections (Documentary, Animation, La España Vaciada, Hecho en Castilla-La Mancha, Hiparquía and Humorous Fiction) awarded by the audience who attended from the 11th to the 18th at each of the screenings. Subsequently, the prize for the best short film in these sections will be awarded, but this time according to the criteria of the festival jury. It should be noted that the award in the Hipparchy category will be presented after the decision of the Platform for New Filmmakers (PNR).
public of the Rafael Serrano Cultural Centre will have the chance to win the poster of the short film ‘Extraña forma de vida’ by Pedro Almodóvar signed by the director himself. The awards for best soundtrack, best cinematography, best screenplay, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, best leading actor and best leading actress will follow.
In the final stretch of the closing ceremony, emotions will still be running high. Before awarding the prizes for the feature films, the X Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival will once again hold the traditional charity event. On this occasion, the festival will help the Colombian organisation Los Altos de San Jerónimo, whose cheque will be collected by the production company Chirimoya Films, which will be in charge of delivering it to this organisation in Colombia. Afterwards, the festival will announce the Audience Award for Best Film. As before, the jury will also award the prize for best director and best film.
After that and with all the statuettes with the profile of Pedro Almodóvar handed out to their respective winners, the most emotional moment will come with the screening of a video tribute to Miguel Rellán, who is the film figure honoured in this successful tenth edition of the festival.
The director of the X Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival, José Antonio Valencia, stresses that “there is a high expectation with the closing ceremony, and even more so considering that this is our tenth edition” and promises that “as in every awards gala, there will be many surprises and, of course, emotions during the celebration of the event”. Furthermore, Valencia Camacho recalls that “it has been difficult to distribute the awards as the level of the works selected in particular, and of all those presented in general, is very high and this complicates things a lot when it comes to assessing and making decisions, but we are convinced that both jury and public have been right in their votes, the former because they are professionals in the sector and know it perfectly, and the latter, because over these ten years they have been demonstrating that their criteria from the point of view of the spectator is very wise and correct”.
