Calzada de Calatrava, 19 August 2024. The eleventh edition of the Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival (8-17 August) marks a before and after in the development and potential of the festival after registering record attendance of public during all the screenings. The Patio de San Francisco has become the nerve centre of the seventh art every night, and also the desired space for locals and tourists alike, as well as for film industry lovers.
Since the tribute ceremony to Emilio Gavira was held and until the last hour, specifically with ten days enjoying feature and short films competing in the competition under the moonlight, the audience has filled the capacity of the Patio de San Francisco. In addition, different directors, actresses and actors have also passed through the local public space to present the works that minutes later would be screened on the screen. A real luxury that further enriches the Calzadian festival.
The mayoress of Calzada de Calatrava and director of the XI Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival, Gema García, has praised and thanked the “extraordinary public attendance that has been registered during the development of the eleventh edition of the festival, with attendance of both adults and young people, enthusiastic to enjoy the best cinema”. In this sense, Gema García emphasised that this participation “has allowed us to register record audience figures for all the screenings”. A figure that “makes us proud and which supports us in continuing to support cinema, already thinking of new initiatives and actions that will allow us to continue to grow a festival that has consolidated itself as one of the best in Spain”.
The director stressed that “the novelties of the programme for this eleventh edition, which includes a host of parallel activities, and the extraordinary quality of both the feature films and the short films selected for the competition, have attracted to the big screen residents of all ages, as well as numerous tourists from different geographical points, both from the province and the region, as well as from outside Castilla-La Mancha”.
Gema García stressed that the audience “is our greatest treasure because, if we didn’t have spectators and this high participation, it would be difficult to conceive the festival and enjoy the screenings on the big screen”.
