The City Council is organising a gastronomic burger trail with up to nine local eateries to be completed between 19 July and 16 August

The names are very original with the burgers ‘Atame’, ‘The General’s Underpants’, ‘The Italian Job’, ‘The Hunger Games’ ‘Mulan’, ‘Carmen Tremula’, ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and ‘Life is Beautiful’

Calzada de Calatrava, 18 July 2024. The 11th Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival will hold from 19 July to 16 August the first film burgers competition, a tour of up to nine establishments in the town to taste their innovative burgers, each one named after a well-known film from the film industry.
Participants need to take a guide to have a roadmap of the participating establishments. There will be no set script to follow, as each person will be able to follow the route as they see fit. After tasting a burger from an establishment, the participant, who is open to everyone, will have to rate the burger in their guide, with a score of 1 to 5 points, evaluating criteria such as originality, culinary value and the relationship with the title of the film that names the burger. Once finished, the owner of each participating bar/establishment will stamp the guide in the space provided for this purpose.
Bar Piscina Municipal on Atame, one hundred grams of delicious pork, mounted on brioche bread, with lettuce and tomato from the garden, brie cheese and crispy onion, accompanied by mustard or honey sauce. As a main accompaniment there will be sautéed vegetables in tempura. The Café Bar Plaza Mayor launches The General’s calzones, calzone burger of secreto ibérico with tropical salad. La Churrería Faly’s The Italian Job, with beef with a faly’s twist including bacon, tomato, barbecue flavoured onion and calzone topping, with pizza bread and accompanied by country fries.

El Merendero SloganPulp Fiction, a brioche bun burger, with a double slab of 100-grain beef, caramelised onion, delicious crispy bacon, topped with goat roll and a touch of film sauce. It will be accompanied by irresistible potatoes. The San Isidro Restaurant is committed to The Incredible Hulk, with a mozzarella stuffed burger with potato bread, crispy jowl, Japanese mayonnaise and sweet potato. La Terraza de Verano La Fresca By EnverowillLife is Beautiful, with a high brioche bun burger, with 180 grams of 45 days matured meat from simental cow, oak leaf lettuce, oiled shavings, home-pickled aubergine from Almagro, slices of torrezno de Soria, pure cured sheep’s cheese from the village and secret sauce by Envero.

The Mayor of Calzada de Calatrava and director of the 11th Calzada de Calatrava International Festival, Gema García, has shown her “enormous enthusiasm for innovating in this way in the festival with an exquisite culinary route” and has stressed that “we do it hand in hand with our local hotel and catering business, as it could not be otherwise, because they do a commendable job every day of the year to offer us the best gastronomic offer”.
In this sense, Gema García has congratulated and thanked “each of the bars/restaurants for participating and for presenting ingenious culinary proposals with burgers that are sure to dazzle all palates, both the residents of our town and all the visitors who will arrive during the XI Calzada de Calatrava International Film Festival”. As for the dates, with a wider range than in previous editions, “there is a logical explanation, and that is that taking into account the high participation and being hamburgers, we thought it appropriate to give a period of almost a month to give time to try them all”.
The director stressed that “the names are very curious and original with the theme of the film industry because we wanted to set this route/contest in our beloved festival”. Finally, Gema García encouraged “everyone to take the opportunity to taste each of the nine burgers, which are made with great care and professionalism” and wished all the participants the best of luck, “although the fact of eating them is already a prize for the explosion of flavours that each diner will experience.
Rules of the 1st Cinema Burgers Competition
To take part in the draws, each participant will have to complete the 9 burger route and fill in their personal details, and then deposit the completed guide in the ballot boxes provided for this purpose, at the festival headquarters and during the festival screening hours, specifically in the Patio de San Francisco de Calzada de Calatrava.
The retail price of the cinema burgers will be 5 euros, plus the price of the drink that each participant consumes, if applicable. There will be one prize of 200 euros plus diploma and a second prize of 100 euros plus diploma among the participating establishments, whose prizes will be awarded on the basis of the overall tally of all the participants once the scores of the guides have been tallied. For their part, consumers will be eligible for a first prize of 200 euros or a second prize of 100 euros, both to be exchanged for vouchers to be consumed in the participating establishments.
The draw for the public prize will take place, in a public event, in the Patio de San Francisco on the 16th of August at the end of the screening. It should be noted that the prize-giving ceremony will take place at the closing ceremony of the festival, on the 17th of August at 21:00. It is compulsory to attend the ceremony in order to collect the prize, either the owner or the person delegated by him/her.
