Paul hunham, a grumpy teacher at a prestigious new england school, is forced to stay on campus during the christmas holidays of 1970 to look after a handful of students who have nowhere to go. Against all odds, the experience leads him to form an unlikely bond with one of them, angus, an intelligent and troubled young man with his own traumas, and with mary, the school's head cook, who has just lost a son in vietnam.
